What do you look for when you edit your photographs?
i don’t think i’m one to answer this question. as far as editing goes, i don’t really do much of that at all because film kind of works itself out. i think sometimes you can see a certain magic or specialness inherent in a photo, and when that happens, you just know. addition or subtraction in the editing process should not be anything more than an afterthought or a flourish to a photograph already able to stand by itself. in my honest opinion, i think people should rely more upon their cameras and their brains than their computers and their editing programs to get the pictures they want. it’s really all about what you’re seeing in the viewfinder and what you want to be seeing, and if you get more on the what you want to be seeing spectrum, you’re doing something right.
of course, i know i have many flaws in my photographs, and when i look at any pictures i’ve taken, those flaws are all that i see. i’ve said it before, though: in order to grow you must see your errors. all i ever want to do is get better. i don’t think i grew much photographically when i shot digital because i became very reliant upon editing to get my pictures to look how i wanted them. if anything, film taught me to take photography more seriously and take my time to set up pictures.
i mean, how your photos came out to be so nicely blurry? did you use expired films? soft focus filters?
thank you! i used neither, actually. my camera just seems to be having light meter issues … i think. i have no idea as to why the focus and the colors of my pictures are all of a sudden coming out so differently than they used to. i’m kind of disappointed in all my new stuff to tell you the truth. i think everything could be so much better.
what did you do and your last photos are so amazing???
what?
does chris live far from you? and seeing you so happy makes my heart warm, i remember you being in some blue phases over the time i’ve followed you and i am just so, so glad you’re in a better place now.
driving, chris lives about twenty or so minutes away from me in a neighboring city. it’s not too far, but certainly not regular walking distance in the triple-digit summer.
and thank you so much. you’ve seriously made my day with that there sentence :’)
heya anna,
did you name that beautiful black cat after the song of the fleet foxes?
it’s not my cat, it’s chris’s. and yes, he named him after the song cuz he loves fleet foxes & robin pecknold & being washed in da rain.
Do you want to be a professional photographer, or is it something you just see as like a hobby or passion on the side?
all i want is to work at a magazine and take pictures of bands and cool people.
Since you live in California..did you go to Coachella?
coincidentally, i’m going to weekend two with boyfriend and boyfriend’s family. this is going to be my first time.
hello anna! i was wondering, in your opinion how hard or easy is it to learn the ukulele? because I've wanted to learn for a long time, and a friend of mine who plays said that i should try because its pretty easy, and i think I'm going to. anyways that's all. you play it wonderfully, i love the cover you just put up, so lovely! : )
aw, thank you so much, india! learning ukulele is really fun and really easy. personally, i have some difficulties with the more complex chords (which actually aren’t very complex compared to guitar chords…) but that’s only because my fingers aren’t very nimble. the ukulele is probably one of the easiest instruments to play, and it’s very lightweight and easy to take along to outings and adventures, so i say go for it!
when you say you scan your photos do you mean you use a flatbed scanner to scan the prints or do you do it some other way?
thank you!
yep, yep. just the prints and the scanner attached to my family’s printer, yep.
